Freezer Repair — Book a Visit Today

A freezer quits quietly. You find out when the ice cream turns to soup or the bag of peas feels soft. Common culprits: a frosted-over evaporator coil, a bad defrost heater or thermostat, a tired condenser fan, a door gasket that stopped sealing, or a compressor that hums and stalls. Out here, dust and hard-water grit love condenser coils, and summer garage heat pushes a freezer past what it was built for. When we come out, we listen to the unit, check temps at the coil, test the defrost circuit, and look at airflow before we talk parts. Chest, upright, or the freezer half of your fridge — same careful order. Call us and tell us what you're hearing.

Freezer Repair — residential freezer being serviced

The freezer symptoms we hear most

  • "Everything's soft but the light comes on." Sealed system or compressor start components — power is fine, cooling is not.
  • "There's a wall of frost on the back panel." Defrost failure: heater, bimetal thermostat, or control board.
  • "It runs all day and never shuts off." Dirty condenser coils, weak condenser fan, or a thermostat that won't satisfy.
  • "Water is pooling on the garage floor." Clogged defrost drain or a door left ajar by a bad gasket.
  • "Ice cubes shrink and food tastes freezer-burned." Air leak at the seal or wide temperature swings from short cycling.

Safe things to check first

Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.

  • 1Pull the plug for a minute, then plug it back in — some control boards just need a reset.
  • 2Slide a dollar bill in the door and shut it; if it pulls out with no drag, the gasket is done.
  • 3Look behind or under the unit for a coil packed with dust, lint, or pet hair.
  • 4Make sure vents inside aren't buried under boxes of food blocking airflow.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us what it's doing

Ring us or fill in the form. Give us the noise, the smell, the error code, the brand. Small details help us load the right parts before we ever knock on your door.

  2. Step 2

    We come look

Our tech tests the machine instead of guessing. You hear what failed and why, in plain words. Then you decide whether repairing it makes sense or replacing it makes more sense.

  3. Step 3

    Repair and retest

Approved work gets done, often the same visit. We run a full cycle before packing up, wipe down the area, and show you what changed so nothing surprises you next week.

Freezer Repair — quick answers

How cold should my freezer actually be?

Zero degrees Fahrenheit is the target. A few degrees above that still keeps food frozen, but ice cream gets soft and frost builds faster. If a thermometer reads in the teens or higher after several hours, something needs looking at.

My freezer works but the fridge side is warm. Same problem?

Often yes. On most side-by-sides and top freezers, chilled air is pushed from the freezer into the fridge. A frosted coil or stalled evaporator fan starves the fridge first. We check both compartments on one visit.

Can I just defrost it manually and move on?

Manual defrost buys you time and sometimes confirms the diagnosis. If frost returns within a couple weeks, the defrost heater, thermostat, or board is the real issue. Repeated thaw-and-refill cycles are hard on your food.

Is a loud buzzing noise serious?

Depends where it comes from. A rattling condenser fan or a piece of ice hitting a fan blade is minor. A buzz-and-click at the compressor every few minutes points to start components. Tell us what you hear when you call us.

Does the desert heat matter for a garage freezer?

It does. Once the garage climbs past a unit's rated ambient temperature, the compressor runs nearly nonstop and struggles to hold zero. Clean coils, clearance around the cabinet, and a garage-ready model all help.

What should I do with the food while I wait?

Keep the door shut as much as possible. A full, closed freezer holds cold for a day or so. Move what matters most to a cooler with ice or a neighbor's freezer, and group remaining items tightly together.

  • Straight talk on old unitsSome appliances aren't worth another part. We'll say so. If a repair is likely to buy you real time, we'll say that too, and let you pick from there.
  • All major brands, gas & electricWhirlpool, Samsung, LG, GE, Maytag, Bosch, KitchenAid and more — as an independent repair company.
  • Straight answersIf it isn't worth repairing, we'll say so — often on the phone.
