Cooktop Repair — Book a Visit Today
A cooktop quits in small ways first. One burner clicks and clicks. A ring lights blue on one side and yellow on the other. Glass tops get a hot spot that never turns off, or an element that never turns on at all. Out here, boil-overs plus hard-water minerals bake into the burner ports and the switch housings, and that grit causes half the calls we take. A visit starts with us watching the failure happen, then pulling the top to test igniters, switches, and the control board. We repair all major brands as an independent family shop. Swing-shift hours help if you work nights. Call us and tell us what the burner is doing.

The cooktop symptoms we hear most
- It clicks forever but won't light Clogged burner ports, wet or cracked igniter electrode, or a failing spark module.
- One burner is dead, the rest are fine Burnt infinite switch, broken element terminal, or an open coil on that one position.
- The flame is yellow and sooty Air shutter out of adjustment, debris in the venturi, or a gas mixture problem.
- Glass top burner won't shut off Welded switch contacts or a shorted relay on the control board holding power on.
- Touch controls ignore me Cracked ribbon connection, moisture under the glass, or a failed touch control board.
Safe things to check first
Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.
- 1Pull the burner caps and grates off, let them dry fully, and reseat them square in their notches.
- 2Look under the cooktop for a tripped breaker or a plug jarred loose during a recent cleaning or install.
- 3Poke a straightened paper clip through the tiny burner port holes to clear baked-on spillover.
- 4Wipe the touch glass dry with a soft cloth, since a film of water can block the sensors.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us what it's doing
Ring us or fill in the form. Give us the noise, the smell, the error code, the brand. Small details help us load the right parts before we ever knock on your door.
- Step 2
We come look
Our tech tests the machine instead of guessing. You hear what failed and why, in plain words. Then you decide whether repairing it makes sense or replacing it makes more sense.
- Step 3
Repair and retest
Approved work gets done, often the same visit. We run a full cycle before packing up, wipe down the area, and show you what changed so nothing surprises you next week.

Guides & troubleshooting
Cooktop Repair — quick answers
Gas or electric — does it change the repair?
It changes what we test. Gas cooktops send us to igniters, valves, and burner ports. Electric and induction send us to switches, elements, and boards. Either way we run the unit first, then open it up. Tell us which you have.
Is a cracked glass top still usable?
We'd stop using it. A crack lets spills reach live wiring underneath, and heat can spread the crack fast. Turn the breaker off and call us. The glass surface is a replaceable part on most models.
Why does my burner cycle on and off?
That's usually normal. Electric elements pulse to hold a set temperature, so you see glow, then dark, then glow. If the cycling changed suddenly or the pan scorches, the infinite switch is likely worn.
Do I smell gas or is that normal?
A brief whiff at ignition happens. A steady smell does not. Shut the gas off at the valve, open windows, skip the light switches, and step outside. Call your gas utility first, then reach us.
Can hard water really hurt a cooktop?
Yes, indirectly. Mineral-heavy boil-overs leave a chalky crust that hardens in burner ports and around sealed burner bases. Scraping it off with metal tools scratches glass and bends electrodes. Warm soapy water and patience work better.
Should I repair the cooktop or replace it?
Depends on what failed. A switch, igniter, or single element is a straightforward fix. Multiple failed boards on an older unit is a different conversation. We'll tell you plainly what we find before anything gets ordered.
