Why does my ice maker work in winter and quit in summer?
Heat load matters. When the kitchen runs hot and the door opens all day, the freezer struggles to hold harvest temperature. If cooling is marginal from a dirty condenser or weak seal, ice output is the first thing to fall off.
Can hard water really kill an ice maker?
It shortens its life. Minerals build on the fill valve screen, the mold, and the thermostat area. That means slow fills, cloudy cubes, and sticking. Descaling plus a fresh filter helps; sometimes the valve itself needs replacing.
Is it worth fixing or should I use bagged ice?
We tell you honestly during the visit. If the fault is a valve, line, thermostat, or module, repair usually makes sense. If the sealed cooling system is failing on an older fridge, we'll lay out the tradeoffs and let you decide.
Do you work on under-counter and standalone ice machines?
Yes. Those have their own pumps, drains, and cleaning cycles. We check water in, water out, and the harvest sensors. Neglected drains and scaled evaporator plates cause most of the complaints we see with these units.
My cubes smell odd. Is that a repair?
Often not. Dump the bin, replace the filter, wash the bin with mild soap, and cover strong foods. If the smell returns in fresh cubes, we look at the water line and the fridge's air handling.
